Summer Night

On last Friday night the Loft hosted it's final "summer nights" class.  I busily prepared food all day and 18 sewers met to make DOLLS.....

Megan Wilcox who won my drawing a few weeks ago was there to show off her angel.  She came to  make a doll for her daughter Pippa's 4th birthday.  It was Megan's first time to try her hand at dolls.

......but first we had to eat!  Kathy, Donna and I set up the food in our middle cutting room....lots of Mexican food....2 types of enchiladas, rice, beans, chips, salsa and of course guacamole.  Maureen, our New York transplant wasn't so sure about that "green" stuff.....:)

......and the line kept on coming.....

.....and coming....

....and finally we set down to sew....We do have our priorities!

The classroom in the Loft isn't huge, so we set up tables in the living room of the house too.  We  had doll parts everywhere and there was LOTS of laughter and chatter along the way.

Thanks everyone who came....I wish all of you could have joined in......Jo Ann

Fat Cats in Primitive Quilts and Projects

I just got my copy of Primitive Quilts and Projects and I love how they displayed my Fat Cats dancing across the page. (check out the article on page 58)  These are ones that were made in a class I taught at the Loft....

......and here is a closer look of a few of the gang!

This one is by Lori of Humble Quilts....She emailed this photo of her cat she made after getting the new fall issue of the magazine.  She also made some other pants for him....so he is a very well dressed cat!  I wonder if she will make him a jack-o-lantern too?

I love seeing what people do with my patterns.  Drop me a line and a photo if you make a cat (or a litter of them!)      My email is jampatterns@cox.net ......  Happy Sewing....Jo Ann

Country Loft Blog

Yesterday Susy Boyer and I blogged on the Loft's blogspot and had a great time bringing everyone up to date.  We even threw in a give-away.....a charm pack from Kansas Trouble's new line.  Go on over to it and check it out....and be sure to leave a comment.  Just click on my sidebar that shows the blog.

I am being lazy today.  I have a LONG list of things to get done, but I decided to finish a  book before I got started.  Laundry, dishes, dusting are still waiting.....I don't think I can put them off any longer.....:)))

Special Boxes

Soon after we lost Megan three of my students brought in this beautifully painted box to keep some memories in.....they thought maybe I would like to share it with Sophie...and then came up with the idea of painting one for Nick too!

.....here is Sophie's box from the top (and the heart is on the side)

......and this is the top of Nick's box.....

When they were here I gave them the boxes.....Here they are showing them off....

....and when we got to their home in Portland, we put them in this cupboard to show them off.....John has some of Megan's things that will find a home in them!

Thank you Kay Fried, Andrea Jeremiah and Nancy Donahue for sharing your talents with Nick and Sophie....and for coming up with such a wonderful idea!  These "memory boxes" will be cherished forever!  (....please keep Andrea in your prayers.  She has been battling cancer and is in need of some extra special thoughts right now)

I am off to work at the Loft.....Happy Monday to you all......Jo Ann

The Visit

Sophie and Nick flew into San Diego with their dad on July 1st.....and for 10 days we kept them swimming and sight-seeing all over town....

Here is Nick being Joe Cool on the 4th of July.....

....10 of us went to the Padre game....and they WON!  We were all so excited!

One day, Gene and I took all 7 of our grandkids to the Scripps Aquarium in La Jolla....Here are Nick and Sophie at the observation point behind the main building.

.......and here are 6 of the kids in the shark cage.....this is one way to keep track of them!

......and all 7 of them near the whale's tail fountain in the front .....I don't think that Lianna was too impressed by her first visit!

......Sophie and Timothy had a great time in our backyard.....Nick did too!

.....We went to the Zoo twice....we are all members, so we made a couple of shorter trips....Nick made friends with a gorilla....

......and Sophie a tortoise.....(when I was a kid you could ride on the real tortoise!)

....their last day we had breakfast with 4 of my brother's grandkids.....they are from Colorado and the Phillipines .....

...and Sophie even got to help give Lianna a bath.

I flew with them on the way home (dad went back earlier) and then visited them in Portland for awhile....We were all ready for some quieter days .....and lots of naps.

An angel of a winner

Ever since Sophie and Nick arrived we have been so busy!  So today, even before she ate her breakfast I had her pick a name.  First though, she wanted to know what she was picking for....so here she is with Annie....

........and here she is showing the name she picked out of the 4th of July can......

.......and the winner is MEGAN WILCOX!   I happen to know Megan....she is one of my Wool Crazies!   Congratulations Megan!!!!!!!  Let me know how you would like your angel delivered...:)))

We are having such a good time with John, Nick and Sophie.....plus The Thornburgs and Ada Farnum who are also staying here from Portland.  Happy 4th of July!!!!!   Jo Ann
